Lawn Care
WINTER
With the slowing of grass growth over winter when temperatures are low, there is more time to repair and rejuvenate lawns. Aerateing, weed control and dethatching should all be carried out from June through to August. Kikuyu lawns will turn yellow after the first frost and the use of a strong tined rake will remove a lot of old runners allowing the mower to reduce unwanted grass cover. Aerating can be done manually with the garden fork or for bigger lawns special machines can be hired for the task.
Around the middle of August apply fertiliser,(see below) and apply a lawn weed spray where necessary. Do not mow within 4 days before and after spraying.
