Monday 24th August
Speaker Gary Weymouth, ex Bureau of Meteorology
Topic: Weather and Forecasting – Tipping Points and Photos
This is a follow-on to Gary’s popular talk from last year. This time, Gary will focus on ‘tipping points’ related to weather – such as what is the difference between a thunderstorm happening or not, leading to an explanation of why rainfall forecasting is so hard and what we can do about it, influences on fickle sea-breeze forecasting, what are the differences that lead to filling versus drying water storages or floods versus soaking rain, heatwaves and heat health, weather and energy outcomes, and a few others. Gary will also show a few examples of information available on the Bureau website and App, including a brief discussion of what’s up with the so-called ‘super-el Nino’.
Gary is known in the club for his weather, garden and nature photos, of which this talk will have more.
Venue: Senior Citizens’ Centre, corner of Mason Street & Barkly Street, Warragal. Competition exhibits to be in place by 9.15am
