News From The West Gippsland Orchid Club
There was quite a buzz at our first meeting for 2025, with 16 enthusiastic members attending and eager to learn. The theme for the night was “What’s wrong with my orchid plant”?
A couple of younger members brought their plants to get an understanding of how to manage the problems they face while a well seasoned grower also brought his 2 plants along to help everyone learn from him of the treatment required for the problems. One of the plants was fully encased win a plastic bag as it was deemed to have a virus and he took the precaution of not allowing the virus to spread to plants on the night. It was doomed to go in the bin once the discussion was over!
The formalities of the meeting were brief and supper was served prior to having the results on the plants brought in by members for judging. Peter Mac was the winner of the Open class and Guy P was the winner of the Novice class. There weren’t any entries in the Advanced Section. The 2 winners were given a new orchid to take home and add to their collection.
Our next meeting will be held on Thursday 6th March at the Drouin Scout Hall, starting at 7:30. We will be welcoming Marg Stammers from the Warragul Community Garden to address the group and explain how the Community Garden serves the people in Warragul and surrounds. This is a very important group doing a great job helping people with growing edible plants and also sharing the crops with community members.
We would like to extend an open invitation to all interested members of the public to attend any of our Orchid Club meetings and welcome new members without pressure to join.
